Sunrises and sunsets in the woods

Sunrises and sunsets in the woods are not the grand, spectacular sights seen from open hilltop vistas or overlooking a lake. The rising and setting of the sun as viewed between trees is subtle and mysterious. It is silhouette, not details, a beauty that must be sought rather than one that is spread out before oneself like a banquet.

Soft, subtle colors of a winter sunrise in the woods
This is one of the more colorful sunrises.
But even through the trees, the colors vary from pastel to vibrant.

A sunset so pale, you have to seek it amongst the trees.
A sunset in the woods that changed and was stunning for a long time before fading into darkness.
In the waning days of a winter that resists giving way to spring, the rising and setting of the sun when not clouded over is a welcome sight.

I apologize for the lack of quality in these photos, it was cold out! and often only a moment could be spared in the routines of getting kids out the door or into bed. (Excuses, excuses!)
